What does Dermal Filler treatment accomplish?

Dermatologists understand that the basis of aging often lies in loss of volume and structure over time. This volume and structure loss typically results in the appearance of lines, furrows, and wrinkles. Experienced dermatologist know that correcting this loss of structure is key to restoring a more youthful appearance, and when done in combination with wrinkle treatments and a comprehensive skin care regimen, can make the skin appear younger and healthier.

What types of Dermal Fillers does Lam Dermatology offer?

JUVÉDERM is a smooth, hyaluronic acid-based injectable gel filler that fills lines and wrinkles from beneath the skin. It is also often used to  enhance the lips to create fullness. It's especially effective on nasolabial folds, but it can be used throughout the face to bring structure and fill in areas of volume loss.

Like standard JUVÉDERM, JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC uses hyaluronic acid. VOLUMA XC is specifically formulated with a thicker gel making it an ideal 'scaffold' to correct for loss of volume.

RADIESSE contains tiny microspheres of calcium hydroxylapatite. This dermal filler works with your body, stimulating production of your own collagen in addition to adding structure and volume. It is typically used in nasolabial folds, cheeks, and temples.

BELOTERO BALANCE is a new and unique hyalauronic acid dermal filler. It is specifically designed to be injected closer to the surface of the skin, allowing for treatment of superficial fine lines and wrinkles. Dermatologist often use BELOTERO BALANCE in delicate areas around the mouth  to fill in lip lines. This dermal filler is also an excellent option to restore lip fullness.

What can I expect during my treatment?

The dermatologist will start your visit with a comprehensive consultation to discuss your specific needs and budget. When you arrive for the procedure visit, your makeup will be removed and your skin cleansed. Next, a topical anesthesia numbing cream will be applied. Once the skin is ready, the dermatologist will inject the filler in specific areas of your skin. Some people may feel stinging or burning sensation as the filler is injected. Since most dermal fillers are combined with an injectable anesthetic, this sensation is temporary. Most treatment sessions take 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the areas treated.

Redness and swelling immediately and for a few days following the procedure is normal and expected. Bruising may also occur, and is typically experienced after treatment of areas such as the lips. The dermatologist will recommend intermittent icing of the treated area for a day following the procedure. Make up is safe to apply immediately following the treatment.

How long can I expect the results to last?

Hyaluronic acid-based fillers such as JUVÉDERM, JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC, or BELOTERO BALANCE typically last between nine to twelve months. RADIESSE can last between twelve and eighteen months.
